Animas Perdidas is Monika Navarro's first documentary film, funded in part by an Emerging Artist’s Grant from the City of Ventura Cultural Council for the Humanities. Monika is a first-generation Mexican-American and was raised in Southern California.
She has traveled extensively in Mexico, and was awarded a scholarship in 2001 from the Mexico Solidarity Network to participate in a delegation to Chiapas, Mexico with the Chiapas Media Project. She received her BFA in Studio Art from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University in 2003. Recently she worked as the festival coordinator for the 2005 “Do It Your Damn Self!!” National Youth Video and Film Festival.
